Saving lives: first aid and defibrillator training at the CIB site in Faro

Last week, our employees in Faro had a special appointment: They followed their colleagues in Lisbon and participated in First Aid, Basic Life Support (BLS), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training. This initiative underscores our commitment to health, safety, and preparedness at our sites.

Our offices in Lisbon and Faro are now equipped with AEDs and are proud participants in the PNDAE (Portuguese National AED Program), officially licensed by INEM. This program ensures that our teams are not only trained but also ready to act decisively in the event of an emergency.

The life-saving power of AEDs

Automated External Defibrillators are portable electronic devices used in the event of cardiac arrest. These devices analyze the heart rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electric shock to restore a normal heartbeat. Their rapid use can mean the difference between life and death.

Cardiac arrest is still the leading cause of death in developed countries. In Portugal alone, around 10,000 cases occur every year, often unexpectedly and outside hospitals. In many cases, the only effective treatment is electrical defibrillation.

Race against time

In the event of cardiac arrest, every second counts. Immediate initiation of Basic Life Support (BLS), followed by using an AED, significantly increases the chances of survival. This training ensures that our teams are competent and confident to act quickly and effectively in an emergency.

Increase readiness, save lives

By equipping our offices with AEDs and ensuring our teams are trained, we are taking proactive steps to protect the well-being of our colleagues, our clients, and the community.

We were also delighted that Jessica Costa, (CEO of the Algarve STP) accepted our invitation to attend the training as a guest. Many thanks to our CEO in Portugal, Ulrich Brandner, for making this training possible.
